We are here to help you. Here are a collection of tips to help you get started on your career journey.
If you’re joining the meeting on a Mac, check that your macOS is updated before the session. Updates help avoid sound, camera, or connection issues during your meeting. You can update your Mac by clicking the Apple menu in the top‑left corner, then going to System Settings > General > Software Update and following the prompts if an update is available.
This meeting is about you and your future, so try to be logged in a minute or two early. It shows responsibility and gives you time to settle in.
Make sure your mic, camera and internet are working before the meeting starts. You don’t want to spend half the session fixing sound issues.
Choose a spot where you won’t be interrupted. Background noise or people walking past can make it hard to talk properly.
Even in a one‑on‑one meeting, muting when you’re not talking helps keep things clear and distraction‑free.
Seeing each other makes the conversation feel more personal and comfortable. You don’t need to be dressed up — just present and ready.
Think ahead about questions or topics — subjects you enjoy, careers you’re curious about, uni vs TAFE, or what you’re unsure about. There are no wrong questions.
This is a safe space. You don’t have to have everything figured out. Being honest about your interests, worries, or confusion helps the counsellor actually help you.
If you need a moment to think or don’t understand something, say so. It’s okay to ask for things to be explained again.
If you’re nervous or think of something while the counsellor is talking, use the chat to note it down or ask your question.
Treat the meeting like an important conversation, not just another online call. Listen, respond, and remember this session is an opportunity just for you.
